It’s a little shocking that community colleges will now be required to provide orientation and academic advising for its students. I always thought this was a given considering, I don’t know, students need guidance in navigating a system they 1) did not create and 2) have to spend time and money on. With a system that doesn’t automatically offer some kind of academic guidance, students are bound to waste precious resources. Shame on schools that did not previously offer orientation and/or academic guidance because it is financially pretatory towards students who do not know better. The role of the school is to help students in their academic journey not be obscure about what they need to know.
